Moto G52 Review: A Serious Competitor in the Rs 15,000 Smartphone Segment

The Motorola Moto G52 was released in India a few days ago, and it now competes in the country’s most competitive smartphone market. The phone, which starts at Rs 14,999, offers rapid charging, a good display, and a clean Android OS experience. The phone is noticeably lighter and slimmer than the previous-generation Moto G51, which was released in the country not long ago (December 2021). Motorola also recently released the Moto G22, a more cheap smartphone that comes preloaded with Android 12. Of course, the most recent model has stronger specs, but can it deliver on its promises? Here’s how it works.

Design

At 169 grams, the new Moto G52 is about 40 grams lighter than its predecessor, the Moto G51. It also has a slimmer body at 7.9mm, making it easier to carry and hold for extended periods of time. The phone’s design may mirror that of the Moto G51, but the pill-shaped rear camera module is similar to that of the premium Motorola Edge 30 Pro 5G. The Moto G52 retains the centrally-aligned hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera, which gives it a more premium appearance.

Despite being an ‘affordable’ handset, the phone looks sleek and upbeat (certainly not an eyesore). Contrary to what we witnessed with the Edge 30 Pro, its sleek body sticks out against the competition, and the location of the power button and volume rockers is ideal for single-handed use.

Because this is a cheap phone, Motorola was conscientious in not removing the 3.5mm audio connection. The smooth plastic rear panel does leave fingerprint smudges, however, the package includes a clear silicone case. Finally, users may choose between two color options: Charcoal Grey or Porcelain White, and the phone does not have an IP classification for dust and water resistance.

Moto G52 Display

Motorola is putting a lot of faith in the Moto G52’s display performance, and for good reason. It has a 90Hz refresh rate and a 6.6-inch Full-HD+ (1,0802,400 pixels) pOLED display. The visibility in bright sunshine is poor, but that is an OLED screen issue in general. The colors on the screen are vibrant and the films on OTT platforms seem sharp in normal lighting circumstances. For the smartphone, Motorola uses a pOLED panel, which appears to be slimmer and more durable than standard OLEDs. It’s impossible to assess the smartphone’s durability without the necessary tools, but the elegant design stands out when compared to competitors like the Redmi Note 11S and Oppo K10.

Performance

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 SoC, developed for low-cost smartphones, powers the Moto G52. Because the chipset doesn’t enable 5G, buyers should consider whether that’s something they want in 2022. Oppo’s newer K10 model, which I reviewed earlier this month, uses the same chipset. It also powers the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11, which has similar specs. Overall, the Snapdragon 680 SoC will provide satisfactory, if not exceptional, performance.

Moto G52 Cameras

A 50-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 2-megapixel sensor are all included in the Moto G52. Surprisingly, all of the rear camera sensors perform admirably in the daytime. Natural-toned photographs and movies, in general, are easier to edit later with your preferred filters and color scheme. Some people prefer boosted photographs, so it’s a personal choice.

The Moto G52’s primary 50-megapixel camera produces clean shots with natural colors in this scenario. By going to camera settings, users can apply their preferred filters. Similarly, the ultra-wide camera has a good field of view and produces sharp photographs in the daytime. However, night photography, like other inexpensive cell phones, has restrictions and noticeable noise.

Conclusion

As I mentioned earlier, the Moto G52 competes in India’s most competitive smartphone class, and it outperforms competitors in many ways. The highlight is the Android 12 OS (out of the box), which is still missing from several inexpensive phones. Similarly, the business has promised an Android 13 update as well as three years of security patches, which will be beneficial to users, particularly the elderly who do not switch gadgets frequently.

With its pOLED screen, the Moto G52 provides one of the best viewing experiences on the market. The pOLED panel not only improves the display quality but also helps to maintain a slimmer form factor.
